Match report Aldenham were inserted knowing that they’d need to post a commanding total to challenge Codicote who boasted several quality batsmen in their ranks.

The innings started well with Tanios striking several early boundaries and by the time Chewitt arrived 25 minutes after the first ball Aldenham were well set on 30 without loss. Coming in at number 3, the Colonel played some typically lusty blows and helped keep the As on target for an imposing total. Matt fell for 45 and was shortly followed by Karan Barot. Slack Haque also fell cheaply – Baz Letts giving his first LBW decision of the season; there are surely many more to come. Fortunatley Tanois stood firm despite wickets tumbling at the other end – he was ably supported by Charlie Munroe who added some real impetus to the innings with his brisk running. The last over of the day saw Tan reach his maiden century of the season and Aldenham eventually reached a score of 229 off their 40 overs.

After tea Aldenham’s opening bowlers began in a well-disciplined fashion. Charlie Munroe took a sensational caught and bowled chance and picked up a further wicket when Barot held a sharp chance at short cover. Chris also bowled well from the other end and was unfortunate not to pick up any wickets himself. The early wickets and tight squeeze on runs really dented Codicote’s chase and, in truth, they never looked like getting back into the match. There were moments of intrigue however, Charlie Munroe executed a fine run out and Katy Munroe made some fine stops on the fine leg boundary. Darpan, Matt Bazeley and Baz also chipped in with a few wickets – high 4.5s all round as the game wound down to its inevitable conclusion.
