Match report Match Report 25th May 2014: Acc Vs Abbotts Langley Cricket Club
It started early on a glorious Sunday morning as Skipper Charlie decided to send out a message on the Whatsapp group with a pre-meditated batting line up at 10:42am. As the opposition and home team arrived at the ground all talk surrounded what time the Saturday skip might choose to turn up after his particularly shoddy antics the day before (only waking at 1.30pm after a night of boozing, 15mins after the meet time and completely missing the pitch inspection at 10, leaving Lee Burrows in Tesco waiting to hear where he should purchase the tea). Better is expected of the Saturday Skipper.

The Match got underway 10 minutes early, with ACC winning the toss and choosing to bat first with Charlie and the Sanghvi opening against the Abbots overseas player. A great partnership they got us to 55 before the first wicket fell of Sachin Sanghvi. T Watfa followed, scoring a respectable 52 and was temporarily joined by Slaque Haque who got a fourth ball duck entirely caused by a half tracker that came up an inch, hitting off stump. Dan Knight once again did the team proud scoring a well deserved 14 off 32 balls. Big Dan and Karan Barot brought the batting to a close. Dan eagerly getting on the scorebook with a 1 not out and Karan top scoring at 95 not out highlighted by a typical IPL 6 going backward point. The innings came to a close setting an all mighty 233 for 5.

A superb Tea supplied by the Knight household. The cakes were lovely Carol, Thank you.

Teas were done and The Almighty Parish took to the field to resume the fight for glory. The bowling was opened by the home grown left arm talent that is Chris Hewitt and was joined by Sen Bala with his adoring wife watching on as he made a breakthrough for the first wicket with the help of ‘sick note Slaque’ diving for the catch. Although leaving much to be desired the scorebook indicates a continued flow of wickets falling, distributed almost equally to the Aldenham boys (2 for Chewy, 2 for Bala, 1 for Morgan, 2 for Rikaz, 2 for The Knights) and highlighted by Karan’s run out of the oppos top scorer to achieve victory from 159 all out securing his place as the Man of the Match. There were however some mishaps along the way with no less dropped catches than would be expected earnt by Watfa, Sachin and 2 by Bala who had to retire back to the pavilion after the second, having dropped the ball from a great height squarely onto his own testicles.

The fun is, as always, set to continue in the next game of the season at our own home ground of Aldenham this weekend. Please plan to come and support the brave souls who dare to face to worthy opponents of Waxlow and Tring this weekend and cheer us on to another victory!
